In Day 3 of our series documenting the construction of my bespoke cowboy boots from legendary bootmaker Lee Miller, we see Lee go through the process of creating and then sewing the hand made welt. This strip of leather is the backbone of a hand made pair of shoes. It is what attaches the outsole to the shoe, but allows for the boot to be resoled, without damaging the shape and fit of the boot. It is one of the most important parts of a bespoke shoe.

This series follows along the making of a pair of western cowboy boots totally by hand by one of America’s most famous boot makers, Lee Miller. The entire series is comprised of six separate days of filming, each which will be released individually. This is in addition to separate videos documenting the bespoke measurement process, last design, and boot leg design. Links to these videos can all be found below.
