Gallery Eclectic is pleased to present a solo exhibition of ceramics by Shinobu Hashimoto.

Shinobu Hashimoto is based on Hokkaido in the north of Japan. He first sought to be a professional potter at the age of 30, when he taught himself all the basic pottery techniques. His pieces are produced in different series, each of which has an original style named by the artist as ‘Hibikesho’ (Cracked Slip), ‘Hibikuro’ (Black Crackle) or ‘Akagane’ (Red Copper).
A number of processes are behind each pieces from these series.
Hashimoto’s works are highly elaborate, but not too assertive. They delicately incorporate a sense of crisp and timeless elegance into your everyday life.

Hashimoto have had his solo exhibition in Gallery Eclectic several times before. Which was succeeding. He will mainly presents a new collection which represents his current approach. “I’ve tried to express what I’m thinking at the time in each solo exhibition. I approached to unusual ceramics like Japanese traditional tea vessels for recent years. But now I’m going to think about usual ceramics which is my origin of working philosophy.”

To celebrate the opening of the fifth solo exhibition by the Japanese potter Shinobu Hashimoto at Gallery Eclectic, we are delightful to announce we will be holding a workshop event using pieces created by Hashimoto.

This event will be a precious opportunity to experience making matcha served on Hahimoto’s tableware especially created for this occasion.

Learn to Whisk Matcha Tea
Matcha is made by grinding green tea leaves into a fine powder on a stone mill. Come along to experience preparing matcha in the authentic way by whisking the tea powder in a tea bowl with a chasen.
