My Grandpa Has Dementia: When Caregivers Need Help
What help is there for dementia? Where can dementia caregivers find support? For Bethany’s grandpa, it’s at St Luke’s ElderCare’s dementia day care where they engage the elderly with reminiscence therapy, cognitive activities and reality orientation therapy.
At first, William's dementia symptoms included forgetfulness and confusion. But then the wandering and getting lost began - he even found a way out after the family padlocked the gate. That's when Bethany's mum Geraldine, who was William's main caregiver, decided to put him in day care.
Much of the video was filmed before Singapore’s COVID-19 ‘circuit breaker’ when care facilities were suspended. Since reopening, the centres now take precautions such as safe distancing and smaller group activities.
