How To Use Terracotta Inside and Outside Your Home (How To Guide)

Adding a rustic element within your home, Manetti Terracotta elevates interior spaces. Manufactured by Cotto Manetti for Artedomus, the tile contributes to the distinct character of View House by Archier.

In View House, Archier employs Manetti Terracotta as an honest and robust material that will age gracefully over time. As used in the View House entryway to counterpart the black brick façade, the reddish material aims to balance and warm your home. The tile also features in the downstairs bathroom, where its warming quality is amplified by a mirror placed opposite, allowing its presence to be seen from any perspective.

Before the terracotta tile reaches your home, it undergoes a process of slight refinement. After baking, the tile is washed with a gentle mixture of phosphoric acid and water to rid the surface of any white flecks. Then, once the tile is dry, a sealer is applied. The visual effect of the tile depends upon the type of sealer used, with some sealers enhancing the depth of the colour but a solvent-based, penetrating sealer will not change the appearance of the material. Authentic terracotta tiles traditionally feature a rough edge, therefore, if the design for your home requires a two-millimetre grout joint, the edge will need to be shaven. In following Italian tradition, incorporating a wider grout joint to the design of your home will respond to the roughness of the edge.

With the Cotto Manetti family creating the first same-named tiles in 1780, the current production methods are steeped in tradition and capture centuries of success. Supplying Manetti Terracotta, Artedomus has the privilege of bringing a piece of family history into your home.
