2020 Renault Espace Initiale Paris – Interior, Exterior and Drive
Renault has pulled the covers off the 2020 Espace, the brand’s flagship model which gains new tech and safety features.
The new Renault Espace, which will launch in Europe in spring 2020, has been subjected to subtle design tweaks that include new LED Matrix adaptive headlights -a first for Renault-, taillights with redesigned LED signature, new wheels, an updated rear bumper with a new skid plate and a new front end for the range-topping Initiale Paris variant.
The facelift introduced more noticeable changes once you step inside the spacious interior of the Renault Espace; the flowing center console has been redesigned with a new closed storage area that includes two cup holders and a pair of USB ports while the infotainment system now runs on the latest Easy Connect interface through a 9.3-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also new is the configurable 10.2-inch digital instrument display that features a 3D navigation screen.
Since its introduction back in 2015, more than 60 percent of sales came from the range-topping Initiale Paris trim; Renault now offers the choice between two types of Nappa leather upholstery, Black Titanium and Light Sand-Grey, featuring double topstitching, 10-way adjustable seats for both the driver and front passenger that are also heated and ventilated as well as offering a massage function. The new Renault Espace Initiale Paris also features laminated side windows for the best possible acoustic comfort.
All versions of the 2020 Renault Espace will come with a huge glass roof as standard, as well as the option between five or seven seats.
The engine range includes three options, starting with the turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol unit, shared with the Alpine A110 and Megane RS; here it makes 222 HP (225 PS) and it’s paired exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In addition, Renault offers a pair of 2.0-liter diesel engines, with 158 HP (160 PS) and 197 HP (200 PS), paired to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The active safety range now includes a Level 2 automated driving system that works between 0 to 160 km/h (99 mph), which includes a Stop & Go function for driving on the highway, Advanced Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Active Emergency Braking and more.
The chassis of the new Espace can be fitted with Renault’s 4Control all-wheel steering in conjunction with adaptive dampers and three driving modes – Eco, Comfort and Sport as an option.
