3D Printed Water Tank - Model Railroad Scenery
It’s the ultimate goal, being able to print high quality details for your model railroad layout. Although it’s not perfect and there is certainly room for improvement 3D printing definitely has a place on any work bench when it comes to building scale models.
The printer I’m using was sent to me by GearBest, it’s a very affordable 3D printer but don’t be fooled by the price, even though it’s cheap the final output is fantastic. If you are interested in the printer you can check it out using the links below.

This model is called the ‘Anet A8 – 3D printer’ and is based on the popular prusa i3 3D printer. The printer comes flat packed in a box which helps keep the overall cost down, it’s easy to set up however it takes time and patience! The instructions are on YouTube in the form of a video and very easy to follow.
Overall I’m very satisfied with the printer, I haven’t had it for very long but so far the stuff I’m printing has come out looking very good. I’m also going to print some models using ABS plastic and use the ‘Acetone Fume’ technique to achieve smooth edges which will be interesting if I can get it to work.
The 3D printer I’m using was sent to me by GearBest, they are an online retail store and sell basically any and everything. I have been in the market for a 3D printer for some time but have always been a bit unsure of the print quality and that has stopped me from buying in the past, however after been given the opportunity to use this printer I’m a changed person! I’m actually quite impressed with the results and can honestly say I would recommend this to others with an interest in 3D printing.
But… just be aware there is a steep learning curve and a lot of trial and error in achieving the best 3D prints that you can get, also it can become quite addictive once you get set up!
Don’t forget to check my website regularly as I will post new 3D print designs for you to download once I build and test them for quality. This water tank will be the first design available.
Cheers
Luke
