Renault Clio E-TECH hybrid will offer drivers the very best of Renaultโs expertise, including product expertise in the global best-selling Clio model, expertise in electric engines gained from the brandโs number one position in the European electric mobility market and technical expertise as seen in the exclusive, innovative technology on show, inspired by the eponymous engine developed by Renault F1 Team engineers.
It goes without saying that drivers and passengers will enjoy a unique experience in terms of comfort and peace of mind, while the new engine guarantees a dynamic and enjoyable driving experience. The cherry on the top is significant fuel savings. Read on to learn the secrets of the E-TECH engine.
Based on the 2014 Eolab concept engine, Renault E-TECH โfull hybridโ technology was developed in-house and is protected by approx. 150 patents. The design is focused on a smart multimode DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) gearbox that can handle several engines at the same time. In this case, the gearbox is used to control one petrol engine and two electric engines that power the wheels either simultaneously or independently.
A key component of the Smart Cockpit, the 9.3-inch multimedia screen (twice as large as the 7-inch version) is the biggest ever on Renault model. The vertical and subtly curved tablet , inspired by that on Espace, visually enlarges the dashboard, lends the cabin a more contemporary feel and improves screen visibility. Turned towards the driver, the screen, with its new EASY LINK connected system, comprises all the multimedia, navigation and infotainment features as well as the MULTI-SENSE settings, all of them remarkably simple to use.
Particular attention was paid to the quality of the All-new Clioโs entirely redesigned dashboard. It is divides into three parts: a top panel with a foamed coating, a coated and customizable central panel, and a lower area housing functional components such as the glove box. The dashboardโs wave-like shape lends extra visual width to the cockpit. This impression is further heightened by
the horizontal forms of the central and side air vents. Below the central screen, meticulous attention was paid to ergonomics, with โpianoโ buttons and direct access air conditioning controls for easier use by drivers.
The central console is also a key componet of the All-new Clioโs Smart Cockpit. Positioned higher for enhanced ergonomics, it is home to a shorter gear level offering a natural and comfortable grip. The coated central console can be customized depending on the interior design scheme and features special lighting in its outer edge. The eminently practical storage compartments built in to the lower part of the console make life easier for passengers, including a wireless smartphone charging area.
The headlights on the All-new Clio, now 100% LED from the first trim level, are equipped with the C-Shape light signature that characterizes Renault models. They lend the All-new Clio a more
expressive look, underscored by the diamond motif topping the light and adding extra elegance.
The rear comprises chrome-plated lines as seen on the sides. The design of the trunk, and in particular the flush fit between tailgate and bumper, was reworked for extra perceived quality. Lights overflowing on the tailgate give a wider width to the rear of New Clio.
The hybrid engine on the 140hp Clio E-TECH Hybrid offers maximum efficiency and unparalleled dynamic responsiveness on the road, accelerating from 80 to 120 kph in just 6.9 seconds.
Regenerative braking, combined with the high charging capacity of the 1.2 kWh (230 V) batteries and the efficiency of the E-TECH system, helps to optimise energy. In fact, 80% of the time spent on city roads is in allelectric mode, for a consumption saving of up to 40% compared with an internal combustion engine in urban cycle, with no change in driving habits. In all-electric mode, the Clio E-TECH Hybrid can travel at up to 70-75 kph.
Together, the hybrid devices represent an additional weight of no more than about 10 kilos compared to a dCi 115 engine. In combined cycle, the Clio E-TECH consumes 4.3 litres/100 km and emits 96 grams of CO2/km (WLTP results). The batteries do not reduce the boot space (300 litres), the rear bench seat still folds down and there is still room for the spare wheel. By combining comfort and performance, it can offer dynamic features worthy of the highest segment, whilst retaining the versatility that it has shown over the last 30 years.
