The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor SUV Beats Ford's Target of 400 HP
The latest in the Raptor family will have 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque on tap.
When it was announced, the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor already had a lot to live up to, including the existing Ford F-150 Raptor pickup. Now we know what the Bronco Raptor will punch out of its 3.0 liter twin turbo V-6: 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, thanks to Ford CEO Jim Farley on Twitter, so how does the new Bronco SUV compare to the other V-6 Raptor truck from Ford? Let's take a look.
Let's face it: The days of needing a V-8 for making more than 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque are over, done, terminado. Here we are with 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque out of a 3.0 liter twin turbo V-6. It's not far off its pickup partner, where the 3.5 liter twin turbo V-6 in the F-150 Raptor makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Despite making less power, the V-6 in the Bronco Raptor makes more torque than the 5.0 liter V-8 of the Mustang GT.
Let's look at the power-to-weight ratio of the all-new Bronco Raptor. At 418 hp and weighing in at 5,750 lbs, the Bronco Raptor comes in at 0.073:1. The F-150 Raptor, by comparison, has a 0.078:1 ratio (the F-150 Raptor weighs in at 5,740 lbs). This means that both trucks are roughly the same in terms of power to weight, which is rather incredible considering the 0.5-liter smaller displacement and 10 extra pounds the Bronco Raptor has on over its truck sibling.
Unfortunately, that power does come at a cost. As we pointed out recently, both Raptors get around 15 mpg according to the EPA. Hey, that's just the price you pay to make that much power in a vehicle at close to 6,000 lbs as these two are.
