As one of the most outstanding areas for nightlife and street food, the Hongdae area (named for the Hong-ik University) is one of the most popular spots in the whole of Seoul. Locals and foreigners alike love spending the night, listening to awesome street performances or shopping in the many small boutiques.

The Hong-Ik University is famous for its creative programs and students who love to spend the evening on the main streets of Hongdae area singing, rapping, dancing or otherwise performing for an astonished crowd. And where there are many young people coming together, you can be sure there are loads of wonderful street foods to be had. Most new foodie trends (many of which don't even make their way across the ocean) start here. You can find Chicken skewers, 32 cm icecream, churros, Japanese takoyaki, corn dogs and many many more delicious little snacks.

In between the restaurants, Hongdae also hosts some of the best clubs and bars for the young creative folks. And if dancing is not your thing - and you like to be the center of attention - try the now modern "Coin Karaoke" places. Much cheaper than before, one song will cost you now about $0,50 (500 Won). There are loads of small shops for clothes and acessories and anything else young people could want. Every Saturday, Hongdae area is also the home of a large handmade crafts and art market that you must check out!
