Whether you're an (afterlife-long) Death fan or just discovering their music, EMP has the Death t-shirts and other heavy metal band apparel you need. Widely credited with helping break death metal out of its shocking, censored and banished-from-society shackles, they're regarded as one of the most influential bands in metal history.

With a revolving lineup that included drummers Scott Clendenin and Matt Olivo, bassist Paul Masvidal and guitarist Richard Christy, they released the eponymous Scream Bloody Gore in 1987 and Leprosy in 1988. They followed up with Human in 1991, an album that was more technical and progressive, incorporating complex rhythms and riffs.

Schuldiner dissolved the group after tension with Roadrunner Records, and focused on his solo project Control Denied. But he left behind a massive catalog of recordings. In 2009, indie label Drag City re-released their 1970s albums, and this year Relapse Records re-issued Individual Thought Patterns, Human, Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance in 2-CD and 3-CD formats.
