The renowned keyboardist known for his improvisational skills with the 'jam' band Phish is also an accomplished pianist, composer and leader of the electronic jazz trio Vida Blue. A native of Philadelphia, McConnell honed his skills at Southern Methodist University and Goddard College in Vermont.

He joined the band in 1985 and quickly became an integral part of the improvisational quartet with singer-guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Jon Fishman and drummer Mike Gordon. McConnell has since expanded his repertoire and started a successful side project called Vida Blue with New Orleans-based musicians Russell Batiste and Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge.

A big part of the Phish concert experience is spending all day in the parking lot, which locals call "Shakedown Street." Besides the daylong tailgate party and flea market, there are food vendors, beer stands and merch tents specializing in everything from hoodies to Phish-themed stained glass art. One of those unique pieces is a visual setlist poster by Phanart regular Josean.
