One of the most dramatic and successful experiments in this was Frederick Ashton’s ballet Nocturne, which was set in 1890s Paris. It was designed by the costume designer, Igor Fedorovitch, and although it might look like a conventional ballet dress on first glance, it had enough period detail to make it feel authentic.
