► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/r5jd1F

Everyone knows that a giant rock from outer space hit the planet millions of years ago and wiped out the dinosaurs. Now with advanced technology, researchers have been able to put together a new timeline showing what really happened.

And not only this, they think they know where the giant asteroid came from.

Is Earth the target for another huge space rock, and would we be able to survive? You’ll be surprised, and probably shocked at what NASA astronomers recently discovered.

So now get ready to experience the disaster that almost wiped out life completely on Earth.

Thirty years ago, Taiwan immigrant Jensen Huang founded Nvidia with the dream of revolutionizing PCs and gaming with 3D graphics. In 1999, after laying off the majority of workers and nearly going bankrupt, the company succeeded when it launched what it claims as the world’s first Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Then Jensen bet the company on something entirely different: AI. Now, that bet is paying off in a big way as Nvidia’s A100 chips quickly become the coveted training engines for ChatGPT and other generative AI. But as the chip shortage eases, other chip giants like Intel are struggling. And with all it’s chips made by TSMC in Taiwan, Nvidia remains vulnerable to mounting U.S.-China trade tensions. We went to Nvidia’s Silicon Valley, California, headquarters to talk with Huang and get a behind-the scenes-look at the chips powering gaming and the AI boom.

Chapters:
02:04 — Chapter 1: Popularizing the GPU
07:02 — Chapter 2: From graphics to AI and ChatGPT
11:52 — Chapter 3: Geopolitics and other concerns
14:31 — Chapter 4: Amazon, autonomous cars and beyond

As many countries across the globe battle sky-high inflation, Switzerland’s economy is seeing something far less dramatic.

Inflation in Switzerland hit a 29-year high of 3.5% in 2022. While high by Swiss standards, that figure is well below the double-digit inflation of comparable economies including the United States (9.1%), United Kingdom (11.1%) and euro zone (10.6%).

On top of that, economists say it’s easing.

“It’s coming down a little bit,” Tobias Straumann, professor of modern and economic history at the University of Zurich, told CNBC.

So, what is it about the Swiss economy that’s allowed it to largely sidestep inflation, and what can other countries learn from it? Watch the video to find out. https://cnb.cx/41qXuXw

For the first time in six decades, China’s population is shrinking, and it’s predicted it could create a demographic crisis. That’s because China isn’t just shrinking, it’s also aging. And the majority of Chinese couples are not considering having more than one child. Because of this, China is predicted to lose nearly 50 percent of its population by 2100.

China’s population decline can be traced back to the restrictive family-planning policies launched in the 1970s and an impressive economic boom fueled by China’s huge labor force.
China’s modernization brought rapid urbanization, rising income levels, and better education to large parts of China. Combined, these policies and growth have given China one of the lowest birth rates in the world.

Today, China is trying to reverse its population decline. Not just because an aging population is hard to sustain economically, but because China’s impressive economic growth, until now, has relied on its people. As China’s population challenges deepen over time, it might have to rethink how to grow its economy and care for its citizens.

You can explore China’s birth and death rate data via the United Nations Population portal, here:
https://population.un.org/wpp/....Graphs/Probabilistic
https://population.un.org/wpp/....Graphs/Probabilistic

As well as the country’s total population and predictions here:

Here are some key facts about China’s declining population from Pew Research:

You can read some surprising details about China’s family planning policies — for example, the One-Child Policy was actually less impactful than the Later, Longer, Fewer campaign — here: https://scholar.harvard.edu/fi....les/martinwhyte/file

And a report on China’s income gap:

You can explore population pyramids from across the world on the US Census Bureau’s website:
https://www.census.gov/data-tools/demo/idb/#/country?COUNTRY_YEAR=2023&COUNTRY_YR_ANIM=2023

Finally, our expert, Professor Wang Feng, believes China’s population growth can be framed in a positive light. To understand how, read this piece he wrote for the New York Times:

Vanilla is one of the world's most expensive spices because it's so labor-intensive to grow. Madagascar is responsible for 80% of the world's supply. And there, each vanilla orchid blooms for just one day a year. Farmers have to hand-pollinate each flower because the plant isn't native to the island. In recent years, the tough work has paid off, as vanilla prices soared to $600 per kilo in 2018.

But why, if vanilla outpriced silver, are Madagascar farmers still in poverty? Farmers face fluctuating prices, unfair cuts of profits, and vanilla thieves stealing their crops. We head to Madagascar to see how farmers are trying to protect their "green gold."

Tropical rock lobsters, or pearl lobsters, as they're better known, are one of the rarest and most expensive lobster varieties. The colorful crustaceans are so valuable that there have been international smuggling attempts of its larvae.

Commercially bred pearl lobsters sell for about $50 per kilogram, while wild-caught pearl lobsters sell for $99 per kilogram. This makes pearl lobsters more than six times as expensive as Maine lobsters.

So, what makes pearl lobsters so special? And why are they so expensive?

Why Pearl Lobsters Are So Expensive | So Expensive Food | Insider Business

Angulas are the young of the European eel. They are a delicacy in Spain, where a single kilogram can reach thousands of dollars at auction. Angulas are tiny. Fishers need to catch 3,000 eels to reach just 1 kilo, a task that requires spending entire nights in the water, in total darkness, braving strong tides and stormy seas. And while angulas are prized for their crunchy texture, they have a very mild taste — almost nonexistent. If they don't taste like much, what makes these eels so special? And why are they so expensive?

Bangles are a staple accessory for women across South Asia. But making them involves standing in stifling heat, inhaling glass particles, all while handling dangerous melted glass that’s as thin as water.

Editor's Note: At 7:34, there is a typo in the translated captions on the price of milk in US dollars. It should be $6 instead of $60.

Spain produces roughly half of the world’s olive oil. Most of that comes from a single cooperative in the south of the country, where 75,000 families work together to farm their groves. In 2022, Europe experienced its worst drought in 500 years, making it tougher for these farmers to grow the olives they need.

Making authentic Tyrian purple dye starts with extracting a murex snail gland. After a series of painstaking steps, Tunisian dye maker Mohamed Ghassen Nouira turns as much as 45 kilograms of snails into a single gram of pure Tyrian purple extract. When he's done, he can sell it for $2,700. Some retailers sell a gram of the pigment for over $3,000. In comparison, 5 grams of synthetic Tyrian purple costs under $4.

So, why is real Tyrian purple so hard to make? And is that why it's so expensive?

Cochineals are tiny bugs that live on prickly pear cactuses. The acid in their guts makes a red dye used in textiles, cosmetics, and foods like M&Ms and Yoplait yogurt. Indigenous people across Latin America traded it for thousands of years. It can be found on the walls of archeological sites, in priceless paintings, and in the robes of kings. But today, Peru dominates the market, and Mexico’s cochineal farms are disappearing.

We met a few of the country’s last farmers trying to keep the ancient tradition alive.
