Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy A12 budget smartphones, with a hands-on review of the camera tech, testing the gaming performance, and a tour of those OneUI features. This isn't one of the best affordable phones of 2021 sadly - for under £200 you can get the Oppo A53, Moto G30 and better options. But that's not to say the Samsung A12 is bad.

That 5000mAh battery means all-day play no worries, helped by the energy-efficient Mediatek chipset. But this Galaxy can be laggy, while gaming is certainly limited. PubG and Call of Duty will run, but you'll see judders even on low detail levels.

That 48MP camera struggles when conditions are tricky, with no night mode to speak of. You also have a 5MP ultra-wide lens and macro snapper, but the Samsung Galaxy A12 is a far cry from those more premium models where photo and video quality is concerned.

OneUI 2.5 sits on top of old Android 10, so here's hoping for an update to fresher software soon. You don't get some of Samsung's best features like Bixby Routines, but there's plenty of gesture support and extra bits to play around with.

So that's what I think of the Galaxy A12, one of the cheapest but most problematic Samsung smartphones in 2021. Check out my reviews of other budget phones for other ideas!
