Welcome back to RBR, guys! Today, we’re on the first drive of the newly facelifted #Audi S3, available in both Sportback and Sedan versions. This model now boasts a more RS-inspired design and significant changes under the hood, borrowing key tech from the iconic #AudiSport RS3.

Believe it or not, the S3 has been around for a quarter-century, having debuted in 1999. Over these 25 years, it has consistently featured a 4-cylinder engine paired with an all-wheel-drive system, starting with the 225HP Haldex AWD system in the original model. However, the S3 has often lacked the dynamic edge that many rivals have later displayed. Plus, those rivals now add plenty of emotional appeal, such as the AMG A35, BMW's M135, and even the Golf R from within its own group.

This facelifted S3, though, seems ready to change that. The familiar EA888 engine remains, but it’s now more powerful than ever, boasting 333PS and 420NM, enabling a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds. The new pre-loaded turbocharger enhances responsiveness, and the 7-speed gearbox now offers 50% quicker shifts.

A major highlight is the addition of the RS3 Torque Splitter, which significantly enhances the driving dynamics by enabling active, fully variable torque vectoring between the rear wheels, making the S3 feel more agile and RWD-like. This is complemented by the new “Dynamic Plus” driving mode, which increases engine idle speed and provides more direct throttle response and quicker shifts.

Further improvements include new wishbones with stiffer bearings, more negative wheel camber for better steering response, and thicker brakes with new calipers and larger pads on the front. The suspension remains unchanged, sitting 15mm lower than the A3, but the top Vorsprung version now features retuned adaptive dampers.

Design-wise, the facelifted S3 boasts a more aggressive look with a redesigned grille, updated and customisable lights, RS-inspired wheels, and a performance exhaust option from Akrapovic. The interior features upgrades such as a new center console, integrated S tronic gear selector, widened chrome air vents, Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, head-up display, adaptive cruise control, and Fine Nappa leather sport seats.

The S3 Sportback starts at £46,925, with the Saloon priced slightly higher. The top-tier Vorsprung version, at £52,400, adds adaptive dampers, matrix LED headlights, a panoramic roof, powered tailgate, 360-degree parking cameras, and powered front seats. Today we're driving the "Black" version, without the adaptive dampers.

With these enhancements, the new S3 is edging closer to the RS3, offering a compelling blend of performance and everyday usability. Now, let’s dive into the design details of this exciting facelift!
