San Antonio, Texas — On Monday, October 23, 2023, just after 1:00 a.m., a San Antonio police officer drove through an apartment complex when he observed a male, identified as 34-year-old Ruben Garcia with a handgun in his front waistband at the 2500 Block of S. General McMullen. The officer exited his marked patrol vehicle and called out to Garcia who immediately took off running through the apartment complex. The officer ran after Garcia and deployed his taser but was unsuccessful. As the foot pursuit continued, Garcia tripped and fell. The officer and Garcia struggled over the Garcia’s handgun as Garcia reached towards his waistband to grab it. The officer stepped back and fired several rounds at Garcia, striking him. Garcia was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was injured.
