Google Pixel 4a Review | Five Months Later
Reviewing the Pixel 4a, Google's budget-friendly smartphone boasting the best camera tech at this price, five months after I first unboxed it. Versus the 5G model and the Pixel 5 flagship, this is still a bargain - even if it doesn't have the future-proofing of its bigger siblings. And as we hit 2021 I'd definitely highly recommend it still.
The Google Pixel 4a's greatest asset is that 12.2MP camera, which is the same tech found on those more premium phones. This can capture brilliant photos in almost any conditions, with simple point and shoot functionality.
However, there's plenty of other bits to love here. This compact blower is one of the best mini handsets of the year, while the OLED display is bright, sharp and colourful. I also had no issues with audio, thanks to the headphone jack and dependable Bluetooth connectivity.
Battery life isn't as strong as many budget rivals sadly. You'll generally make it through the day just fine but with heavy use, the Pixel 4a does occasionally die before bedtime. You don't get any 5G support either, unless you upgrade - while many rivals such as the OnePlus Nord do.
