One of the most beautiful leisure areas that Londoners and other people who pass through Londrina, in the State of Pananá in Brazil, can enjoy is Lake Igapó, whose name, in the Tupi language, means overflowing rivers.
The lake was designed in 1957 as a solution to the problem of the drainage of the Cambezinho stream, which was hampered by a natural stone dam.
The Igapó was inaugurated on December 10, 1959, the day of Londrina's Silver Jubilee, together with the sanitation station. After a period of some abandonment, a project to revitalize the lake was prepared.
The Zerão (Luigi Borgesi Leisure Area) and the Urban Social Center were built. The project, by Burle Marx, included a garden with 187 species of native plants.
It is a place of leisure, which in addition to the dam, provides the practice of water sports. It has a vast urbanized area with swimming pools, model airplane tracks and a photo club.
In 1996, the lake was emptied, cleaned and its banks were revitalized, gaining the bike path, Teatro do Lago, gardens and fountain.
