Derek Muller has a great video on how special relativity causes magnetism. Except if you pay close attention, something doesn't add up. Why doesn't special relativity affect the electrons when we see them from our stationary frame of reference. Why aren't the electrons length contracted when we see them moving? Actually, they are length contracted, but Derek passes over this without comment. He probably doesn't want to untangle the can of worms it would open if he said something. In this video, I explain what's going on.

Holes in metals

I am getting a lot of comments saying that holes don't exist in metals because the structure of a hole in a p-type semiconductor does not occur in metals. Scientists also use the term "hole" to describe the entity left behind when an electron is removed from an atom. Scientific literature referring to holes in metals is commonplace. For example in the following articles:

Spin transport of electrons and holes in a metal and in a semiconductor, V. Zayets, Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, Volume 445, 1 January 2018 (https://www.sciencedirect.com/....science/article/abs/

Effect of Electron-Hole Scattering Resonance on X-Ray Emission Spectrum, F. K. Allotey, Physical Review Journal, May 1967 (https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRev.157.467)

Despite an increasing demand for electronics technicians, schools that teach electronics at the appropriate level are disappearing. RSD Academy is changing this trend by making a real academic course in electronics technology available for free to anyone with Internet access. To help make this possible, you can donate at the following link:
