Inside An Unusual $90k Overhaul Of A HDB Maisonette With A Bold Coloured Kitchen

This week we visit a spacious 1,582 sq ft HDB Executive Maisonette in Simei. For home owners Ernest and Karen (along with their dog Scooter), they valued a maisonette for the split-level layout as it affords more privacy and space unlike any other type of HDB flat.

They wanted something more minimalist for their living area, and instead of a loose furniture piece for the TV console, they opted for a concrete console with curved ends to soften the look. Likewise, the curved niche in the living room helped to provide a more interesting visual and serve as a form of display.

For the entrance of the home, they chose to go with a breeze block for feng shui reasons. But practically it did make sense as well as it does give some privacy along with allowing for the wind to flow through.

The most interesting aspect of the house is in the kitchen, where they chose to go with an unusual split-coloured look. Along with that, a rounded fluted island complements some of the curved features of the house.

Special thanks to Ernest and Karen for showing us around their beautiful home.
