The exterior design of the Picanto series has been extensively revised. In particular, the sporty GT-Line and SUV-inspired X-Line models have been significantly modernized. The result is a fresher, more distinctive appearance.
The front of the Picanto has been redesigned on both the GT-Line and X-Line models to give these cars a more determined look. The โtiger noseโ grill has now been given a new structured frame and is more open overall. The chrome bezel sweeps down to the lower part of the redesigned headlights, giving the car a more distinctive, solid look. On the right and left of the โtiger noseโ on the GT-Line models there are red highlights, on the X-Line models there are โtechnicalโ black trim strips that are reminiscent of air inlets.
Both vehicle variants have redesigned headlights and LED daytime running lights with four LEDs. The rear shines with newly designed LED combination lights and slimmer fog lights, which at the same time ensure a more recognizable tail light signature.
Both the GT-Line and the X-Line models have a more modern appearance thanks to the visually refreshed front and rear bumpers and the sharper edges in the body. The innovations give the X-Line models a more robust, solid appearance, while the GT-Line models optically tie in with the more powerful GT models in the Kia product range. A larger, wider air inlet in the lower bumper is accentuated by the GT-Line's body-colored bumper with highlights in glossy black and โjewel-likeโ fog lights. The X-Line models have a decorative strip with a metal effect bearing the X-Line logo and a glossy black surround that extends from the radiator grille to the side wheel arch surrounds.
The new Picanto offers buyers numerous options for personalizing their vehicle. There is a choice of 10 bright paint finishes, for example, which make the car stand out from the crowd. To emphasize the sporty character of the Picanto, two new light alloy wheel designs are also available: a 14-inch wheel with 16 spokes and a two-tone 16-inch wheel with a diamond cut.
Inside the Picanto scores with a number of visual and technological upgrades, first and foremost a โfloatingโ audiovisual navigation system (AVN) with an enlarged 8.0-inch widescreen (for further details see โInfotainmentโ) and a high-resolution 4.2-inch digital display in the driver's instrument cluster (depending on equipment).
Depending on the equipment variant and the market, there is a choice of black textile or synthetic leather covers for the seats of the Picanto, with the new model offering a whole range of new upholstery fabrics that ensure a more modern, high-quality look and feel.
The new Picanto is available in Europe with three new โSmartstreamโ petrol engines which, compared to their predecessors, achieve the highest levels of efficiency with lower CO2 emissions. The engine range includes a 1.0-liter T-GDi engine (direct petrol injection with turbocharger) with 100 hp and two 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter DPI naturally aspirated engines (with double injection) with 67 PS or 84 PS.
In addition to other innovations, the 1.0-liter T-GDi engine has a more efficient 350-bar high-pressure injection system. In order to achieve optimum fuel efficiency, the multi-point injection in the two naturally aspirated engines has been replaced by a new DPI injection technology with optimized injection timing. In addition, both engines are characterized by improved exhaust gas recirculation and optimized control of the intake valve.
All three motors are equipped with a new integrated thermal management system (ITMS), which ensures more effective combustion chamber cooling. ITMS varies the engine cooling properties depending on the operating point of the engine.
