The tiny medieval town of Granadilla, Spain, was founded in the 9th Century AD. Up until the late 1950s it was home to around 1,000 people. Then, within a 10-year period, everyone was forced to leave. It has remained abandoned ever since.

The town had been scheduled to flood, due to a new dam that had been built by Francisco Franco's regime, and the former inhabitants were forced to leave their homes and relocate.

But now, more than 50 years later, the flood waters have still not arrived – yet the original inhabitants of Granadilla are still forbidden from returning to their former homes.
