Renault held a virtual event on Thursday, during which it unveiled an electric hatchback and a new low-cost city electric car under the Dacia brand.

At the new Renault eWays event, dedicated to today’s and future electromobility, the French company unveiled the Renault Mégane eVision electric hatchback and the Dacia Spring Electric city electric vehicle.

The Renault Mégane eVision will be the backbone of a serial electric vehicle that will go into production next year. It is equipped with a 160 kW (217 hp) electric motor powered by a 60 kWh battery. The new electric vehicle supports 130 kW DC fast charging and has an on-board charger with a maximum output of 22 kW.

In turn, the Dacia Spring Electric model is equipped with an ultra-low power 33 kW (44 hp) electric motor, which is powered by a 26.8 kWh battery. Thanks to its small size and light weight, Renault claims the EV is able to travel 225 km on a single battery charge, according to the WLTP standard.

Renault also said it will be “the cheapest electric city car on the European market.” Its price will be about 10,000 euros. The Dacia Spring Electric is expected to go on sale in Europe in spring 2021.
