There are 20,989 new community Covid cases with 856 people in hospital and 20 in ICU on Friday.
7,172 cases are in Auckland, with 601 hospitalisations and 10 in ICU.
There are seven deaths today.
Omicron subvariant BA.2 is taking over from the BA.1 variant in outbreak.
The way deaths are recorded by the Ministry of Health has been changed, with 34 people identified as having clearly died of Covid, as opposed to other causes of death while being Covid-positive.
Today the stand up is in Auckland and is being held by Dr Andrew Old, NRHCC chief clinical officer, Dr Anthony Jordan, NRHCC associate chief clinical officer and Clinical Immunologist/Physician, Dr Christine McIntosh, and NRHCC primary care clinical co-lead for Whānau HQ.
