The town of Vence is located in the French department of Alpes-Maritimes (06) in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region.Vence has about 19,200 inhabitants, its area is 39.23 km². Its altitude above sea level is between 40 and 1033 m.Its population density was 491 inhab./km² in 2010

The historic part of Vence is revealed within a completely preserved medieval enclosure: this heart of the city is full of history while being full of life.

Once inside the ramparts we discover many alleys where life is good and where we want to stroll. With family, lovers or friends, this walk invites you to meet the people of Vence and traders: an experience on a human scale. This is an opportunity to take the time to drink a coffee; to sit on a bench in the sun… to have fun.

But the historic city is also an invitation to a journey through 2000 years of history. This visit makes you discover the rich heritage of the city through its alleys, its squares, its monuments... or its fountains. You enter through one of the five doors that pierce the medieval enclosure, you will discover a magnificent Cathedral where you can drink the water of La Foux which flows from the many fountains including that of Peyra, classified as historical monuments.

During this walk in Vence, you will have the chance to visit the smallest cathedral in France or to stop in the smallest square in Europe, the Place Vieille.

Vence is a city in which water is very important: with three rivers, a washhouse and two springs, Vence has always had a very unique history with water.
This is manifested by the presence of more than twenty fountains that can be discovered while strolling through the city. Each of them has its history or its particularity: such as the Basse Fontaine, place Antony Mars, immortalized by Raoul Dufy. The best known remains the Peyra fountain renovated in 1822 and classified as a historical monument.
