Summary of this Tutorial:

Start by installing and activating the WP Fist Letter Avatar plugin.

After activated go to Settings, WP First Letter Avatar to configure.

We will leave the items as they are and you can choose to use the Gravatar and if someone doesn't have a Gravatar it will show the letter instead.
