Square Cake Tutorial Using Acrylics- Rosie's Dessert Spot
In this cake decorating tutorial, I demonstrate how to create a square cake using American buttercream. This can also be achieved using chocolate ganache, but I am just used to the buttercream myself. Enjoy!

In these video tutorials, I normally use Bakels Premixes to save on time.
(Bakels is a bakery grade cake premix. Another great one is Allied Mills)
If you prefer to bake from scratch, I do have a range of awesome cake recipes here which convert to cupcake recipes very nicely too.

I use these butter based cakes above because they are sturdy under fondant and stable at room temperature, as are the muds.

Thank you for watching! You may ask where can you find these acrylic blocks that I used- sometimes cake decorating stores stock them. I made these myself and will be selling them online soon (if you would like to purchase them, please feel free to send me an e-mail and the measurements that you need and I can make you some). Most people though do manage to find some at cake decorating stores.
I used American buttercream in this tutorial and a 6 inch mud cake. My square blocks were 6 1/2 inches, giving me a quarter of an inch on each side of my cake to fill in with buttercream. This method is known to work very well with chocolate ganache, so feel free to experiment :)
I hope this was handy! Square cakes are my kryptonite, I'm not going to lie. But using these blocks really makes the process much easier. Thanks again for tuning in awesome people! I will catch you again next week xx
