(26 Oct 2017) PARTON, JUDDS, RICHIE CELEBRATE KENNY ROGERS AT STAR-STUDDED FAREWELL CONCERT IN NASHVILLE
The Gambler knows when to fold 'em.
Country and pop music superstar Kenny Rogers gathered a glittering lineup of friends for what was dubbed a "Farewell Concert Celebration" in Nashville, Tennessee, Wednesday (25 OCT. 2017).
Earlier this year, 78-year-old Rogers announced he was retiring from touring, which he's been doing for some 60 years. Thirty of them, he's frequently teamed with Dolly Parton, with whom he paired for one of their biggest hits, the pop and country chart-topping "Islands in the Stream."
"Barry Gibb was a pop writer, and he wrote the song," Rogers recalled as he made his way down the press gauntlet into Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. "And Dolly and I added some country to it," Rogers continued. "So we covered two different genres of music. And it was really a wonderful, exciting time for me, because it gave us the chance to get to know each other better, so we can work together."
Parton joined Rogers on the Bridgestone stage. Other guest performers included Linda Davis, Crystal Gayle and Idina Menzel.
The night also marked an on-stage reunion of The Judds, mother Naomi and daughter Wynonna, who go way back with Rogers.
Noted Naomi, "This is so awesome because we're celebrating our dear family friend -- and I say he is a family friend, because we feel like he's been friends with us forever, since she first saw him when she was 20 years old. But we get to celebrate him. We get to sing together as The Judds. So this is an awesome night for us."
Country Music Hall of Famer and Grammy-winner Rogers has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, with hit singles including "Lady," "She Believes In Me," "Through The Years" and "Lucille."
