In its first full year on sale, the new Suzuki S-Cross receives an all-new engine. Shared with the Suzuki Vitara, it’s the so-called “self-charging” Dualjet 1.5 hybrid engine. The Full Hybrid solution, therefore, to clearly differentiate this version from the 1.4 Boosterjet engine with SHVS light hybrid.
Details of Suzuki’s new Full Hybrid engine
To achieve maximum efficiency, Suzuki engineers combined a 33 hp electric motor with a 102 hp Dualjet 1.5 gasoline engine. The total power, however, does not rise to 135 hp, but only 115 hp. Here, there is no manual transmission: the device includes a six-speed robotic AGS gearbox.
A small electric motor is installed at the output of the gearbox, and can allow starting and driving at low speed without starting the gasoline engine.
This version is satisfied with 118 g of CO2 emissions, which allows professionals to be exempt from annual CO2 emissions tax for 3 years.
It replaces the old version of the 1.4 Boosterjet SHVS BVA, and the declared consumption has decreased by 9%, or 5.2 l/100 km.
There is no game in the program in driving modes, which are two: ECO and Standard. Eco mode will prioritize the electric motor, while Normal mode favors hybrid and dual-motor operation.
If an automatic transmission is required, customers will still have a choice between front-wheel drive and Allgrip Select all-wheel drive. It has 4 modes: Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock.
Prices of the new Suzuki S-Cross The Dualjet 1.5 plug-in hybrid is not yet official, the first deliveries are planned for this fall. Traditionally, Suzuki does not offer a long list of options and prefers cars with complete configurations. In the top-of-the-range version, all equipment is standard. It is therefore possible to order one of the cars that are scheduled to arrive in France without a custom build. A different process than the European manufacturers.
