The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and his right-wing Bharatiya Janata party or BJP scored another historic victory in the recent state elections in India's most populous state of Uttar Pradesh.

The party was also returned to power in three other states, namely Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur in a pandemic hit economy and widespread unemployment. The emphatic victory also means that the party has now cemented its grip on national politics, decimating its once closest rival, the Congress which is now facing an existential theat.
