❤️ Let me teach you to fall in love with reading.

1. I don’t care what’s hot at the minute. Not liking mainstream books can make you feel that reading is not for you. Find book recommendations from people you admire rather than kindles bestselling list.

2. I was never made to read (or told not to read something). I always associated reading with fun and managed to avoid anything that made it less so (I never read books for literature classes, just their summaries). Don’t force yourself to enjoy things you just don’t (at first at least).

3. I reread books a lot. It’s not about quantity, it’s about pleasure. Try getting back into reading by revisiting an old guaranteed favourite. Sometimes I forget I’ve even read a book until halfway through. It’s fine. It means it’s time for it to come back into my life as naval would say

4. I let my weird interests take me down rabbit holes. The best way to find reading lists is to let them come naturally to you. I’d read an encyclopaedia, branch off to reading about mummification in Egypt, branch to decomposition and then branch to human physiology.

5. I go to first principles. I explore topics as far as I can. To textbooks and biographies. Understanding how things really work empowers you and opens up worlds of more books that branch from that base topic.

6. I take a lot of notes while reading. It helps me focus, engage, remember and apply what I read. Ive created a full second brain with my book notes, but you don’t need to go so far.

7. My reading is guiltlessly hectic. I usually have 5-10 books I’m reading “at a time”. I’ll read a whole book in an afternoon, parts from 3 different books a day, just one book slowly for a week. Reading is for fun, I just follow my attention and passion.
