Description :

Genuine jewel nestled in the quiet of nature, only ten minutes from Grasse and Cannes , the village of Mougins is an ideal place to stay on the French Riviera.

Pablo Ruiz Picasso, born October 25, 1881 in Malaga (Spain) and died April 8, 1973 in Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes, France), was a Spanish painter, draftsman, sculptor and engraver who spent most of his life in France.

The art of life :

Mougins Capital of Gastronomy and the Arts of Living, and a prestigious golfing destination, enjoys a privileged location. Fifteen minutes from Cannes, its beaches and its festivals, eight kilometers from Grasse, city of Perfumes and forty kilometers from the first winter sports resort, Mougins, similar to a citadel, dominates towns and villages.

As early as 1924, the avant-garde surrealist painter Francis Picabia decided to build his home there. His artist friends, Fernand Léger, Paul Eluard, Robert Desnos, Jean Cocteau, Isadora Duncan, Man Ray or even René Clair followed him and also stayed on the piton.
Between 1936 and 1938, a certain Pablo Picasso joined them for festive stays at the “Vaste Horizon” hotel located at the entrance to the old village. One morning, the owner of this hotel discovered an entire wall of Picasso's room covered with drawings that could shock right-thinking souls.
He had all traces of it erased… The poor fellow!

Picasso appreciated Mougins so much that he ended up acquiring a huge property there in 1961, the Mas Notre-Dame-de-Vie, with his last wife Jacqueline Roque.

In this Provençal residence in the heart of the Mougins countryside, which he nicknamed "the Den of the Minotaur", the famous painter-sculptor shut himself up, almost reclusive, and created some 300 works until his death in 1973, at the age of 91 years old.

In his wake, his friend and photographer André Villers also forged strong ties with Mougins.
Just like Christian Dior who resided for a time in the heart of the village.
Edith Piaf occupied the sublime Gatounière residence in the spring of 1963, a few months before she passed away. Before her, in 1955 Georges Simenon had completed his novel La boule noire in this same property.
Wilson Churchill, for his part, liked to write in the middle of nature in front of the Notre-Dame-de-Vie chapel during his stays at the adjoining Mas which belonged to the Guinness family before being acquired by Picasso.
Jacques Brel, stayed in the village for a time during a driving course.
But also Yves Saint-Laurent, Coco Chanel, Roland Petit, Zizi Jeanmaire, Paul Anka, Robert Hossein, Catherine Deneuve or even Jeanne Moreau to name but a few.
The legendary welcome of chef Roger Vergé and his wife Denise attracted other international stars to his starred restaurants: Elizabeth Taylor, Sharon Stone, Sean Connery...
Not to mention the politicians, like Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d'Ivoire and François Hollande who both own property in the town.
Or even athletes, like Henri Leconte or Patrick Vieira.
Recently, the actor Franck Dubosc also acquired a house in Mougins, he comes there to relax with his family happily between two film shoots.
