Trading the catwalk for the kitchen // Cooking in Italy vlog 1

Hi there,

Happy Friday! Are you excited it is almost the weekend? Today’s video is very special to me for a couple of reasons. Last summer I kind of hit a wall and felt very overwhelmed and burned out. It was a combination of lacking motivation, too much work and the lockdown during the pandemic. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do but I had the opportunity to travel back to Europe (not knowing if I was able to return to the U.S.) and spend time in Italy so I did it.

Through a friend in common I met chefs Floriano Pellegrino and Isabella Poti who own a Michelin star restaurant in Puglia, Italy. They invited me to come to Italy and spend time with them and learn more about food & cooking.

This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up so before I knew it I had my suitcases packed and I was on a plane to Europe. During my 14 day quarantine, so many thoughts raced through my mind. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and what it would be like to spend a month living with two of the youngest and best chefs in the world.

Before my trip I stumbled across a quote “ If you never try, you never know”. For me, this was a sign to try and experience something new. I have always loved cooking and mainly because of YouTube I realized it is my biggest passion. But do I want to explore what it is like to be in a kitchen? I guess I would only know if I tried.

I feel you should ever be afraid to something new because life gets boring when you stay within the limits of what you already know.

During my trip in Italy, I experienced how hard and tough it is to work in a kitchen- the heavy lifting, standing on your feet, the long hours and the dedication of what goes into creating amazing dishes is just insane. Floriano and Isabella have taught me about the appreciation of each ingredient, how to work until everything is perfect, and shared their passions for true Italian cuisine.

I hope you enjoy this vlog and that it gives you a little escape from our reality now. Please let me know in the comments below if you enjoyed watching this video!

Maybe it’s time for my own cooking/travel show?

Big hugs xx

Sanne
