Post Malone has always defied easy categorization. His talents are as diverse as his expansive artistic vision, a trait evident from the start. Revisit “White Iverson” from 2016—it’s a track that blurs the lines between a pop fantasy and a cornerstone of SoundCloud rap. Since then, Post has been on a journey of constant evolution. If you trace the path from *beerbongs & bentleys* to *Twelve Carat Toothache*, you’ll notice a wide range of musical exploration, all connected in a logical and compelling progression. Now, anticipation builds for *Austin*, his upcoming album, which drops on July 28. This project, named after his real name, Austin Richard Post, promises to be his most personal work yet. Posty himself describes it as “some of the most challenging and rewarding music for me... trying to really push myself and really do some cool stuff.” To mark the release of his fifth full album, we spent time with Post in Southern California last month. The result is a series of stellar performances where he’s candid and expressive. From strumming a guitar by the pool in “Green Thumb” to reflecting on the couch in “Overdrive,” and even balancing on a rooftop for “Something Real,” Post covers a lot of ground—both geographically and emotionally.
