Chicken Marinade

1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
1 ½ teaspoons ground coriander
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon chile powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 lemon
1 thumb size piece of fresh ginger
6 cloves garlic
120ml greek yogurt
8 chicken thighs, or 2 each

For the sauce

6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cardamom pods
2 dried bay leaf
4 whole cloves
1 green chile
½ teaspoon ground turmeric
1 large brown onion
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
1 tablespoon garam masala
1 teaspoon chile powder
1 ½ teaspoons ground coriander
1 can crushed tomato (or 6 fresh ripe tomatoes)
60g cashews
kosher salt, to taste
240ml cup water
1 - 2 tablespoons sugar (taste before you put it all in)
100ml thickened cream
