Lately bassist and composer Lennart Ginman had his debut alone on stage in an almost sold-out DR Concert Hall with his brand new project:
gInMaN sOlO –bOx AnD bAsS
An unprecedented musical world of processed double bass, classic drum machines, filters, loop-pedals and plenty of stomp boxes and effects. The reactions from the sold-out hall was overwhelmingly positive, and subsequently many organizers expressed a desire to present the project.
The music is fueled by autonomy and detachment. Compositions and sounds being created in the moment, evolving as a sculpture that is shaped, challenged and cut. No sounds are pre-programmed, sampled or pre-recorded.
The music breathes in an indissoluble unity of production and consumption.
Ideas develop into compositions and let themselves be born out of darkness - Perhaps as a small repeated, thoughtfully and minimalist rhythmic pattern that develops into a strong rugged, engineered and abstract soundscape. Out of creations own logic grows the music itself which transforms and materializes into new shapes and adds to the series of unknown truisms.
The melancholy darkness and the longing bitter sweetness is an always present DNA in Ginmans music. A DNA which reflects Ginmans Finnish roots and his love for Edgar Allan Poe's poems.
The solo format is a very demanding form, and it obviously compels new and unseen sides of Ginmans musical talent.
In between the improvised islands and his own compositions, there is also room to toss a few familiar songs into his challenging musical bonfire and let the hungry flames reshape what we expect. As sounds that burns itself to ashes.
