Rua Augusta is an important arterial road in the city of São Paulo, connecting Jardins to the city center.

Currently, the stretch that goes from its beginning to the intersection with Av. Paulista, which is located in the Central Region of São Paulo, has the presence of nightclubs, saunas and concert halls, being one of the red light spots in the city.

The rest of its extension is taken up by banks, high-end stores and boutiques, theaters, luxury restaurants and cinemas, having an aspect eventually considered more noble, sophisticated and even an open-air shopping mall. The lanes stand out: Alameda Santos, Rua Oscar Freire and Estados Unidos.


Franklin Roosevelt Square, built in the 60s, between Consolação and Augusta streets, named after the American president, is one of the main leisure areas in the center of the city of São Paulo.

After a recent renovation, Praça Roosevelt reopened in October 2012 with a space completely restructured and revitalized to the public.

With 200 trees, the place gained new environments with ecological floors, covered with flowers of different colors, special lighting and even a "cachordromo", a green area dedicated to pets, which even has a drinking fountain for pets.

Two security booths were also built, one for the Military Police and the other for the Civil Guard, allowing for a quiet walk at any time.

The square is frequented by a diverse audience, but especially after the revitalization it became a stronghold for skaters because it has a smooth floor, ideal for maneuvers and handrails as obstacles.

Located in a region full of cultural and gastronomic attractions, in the surroundings of Roosevelt there are several theater houses and bars that offer a special program at night.

Opened in 1997 as Studio 184 and today called Teatro Studio Helena Guariba, in honor of the theater director and teacher who was tortured and killed during the dictatorship, it is the oldest operating site to occupy the square. It is open daily, from 11 am to 11 pm, and presents traditional theater plays on weekends.

Companhia Satyros de Teatro has been performing on stages in Brazil and Europe since mid-1989, but only after 2001 did the group arrive at Praça Roosevelt opening two spaces (Espaço Satyros 1 and 2), with a special scenic program, in addition to workshops of interpretation.

Espaço 1 has a café at the entrance, which is open from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am, arriving until 2:00 am on weekends, and the theater, with capacity for 60 people, which has a schedule that varies from Wednesday to Sunday. Space 2 is currently closed for renovations, with no date set for reopening.

Espaço Parlapatões was founded in 2006 by the theater group Parlapatões, one of the biggest names in circus spectacle, and currently houses several plays that relate music, circus, comedy and street theater. The house has a café-bar, a stage for presentations and a room with capacity for around one hundred people.

The square will also be one of the first places to receive free Wi-Fi zones across the city through a project by the City of São Paulo. The expectation is that the network will be installed by the end of 2013, which will allow connection from 512 Kbps, 24 hours a day.
