Welcome back to RBR, guys, and to the final swan song of the RS4 B9 generation: the #Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years! Finished in Imola Yellow, it’s a direct tribute to the RS4 Sport B5 Anniversary Edition and is the most powerful and limited RS4 they've made so far!

Today, I’ll walk you through all the details of this special edition, the performance enhancements, and the lovely design elements inside and out. We’ll also look at the #AudiSport icon that inspired its creation before we take it out for a drive on some worthy roads in Spain! So let’s check out the new #RS4 Avant 25!

The car pays homage to the original sport wagon from Audi Sport - not the famous RS2 from the 1990s, but the true first RS model from quattro GmbH (now Audi Sport), the 1999 B5-generation RS4 Avant. It stood apart from the base Audi S4 with a wide body and a 2.7-liter biturbo six-cylinder Cosworth engine making 380PS. The sportiest version of this gen was the RS4 Sport: with lower suspension, bucket seats, sport exhaust, and a suede steering wheel. Even today, it looks amazing. We’ll take a look at the yellow B5 in today’s video too!

Our new car pays homage to that special bit of Quattro history and stands as the best this gen has to offer. Limited to only 250 units in Europe, it comes in Imola Yellow, Nardo Grey, or Mythos Black with carbon matte details. It takes its basis from the already brilliant RS4 Competition we reviewed, and builds upon it.

We finally have more power, 20PS more, pushing the V6 bi-turbo’s power up from 450 to 470. Torque is still 600Nm, but the 0-60 improves to 3.7 seconds, almost half a second quicker than the normal RS4. That’s all linked to the 8-speed Tiptronic, which shifts faster and more dramatically like the Competition.

The car comes standard with the RS Sport Suspension Pro from the Competition, with stiffer spring rates, rebound adjustment, damping rate, and a lower ride height of -20mm — all adjustable with a toolset provided with the car. It also gets negative camber of 2 degrees. The wheels are from the Competition too, but in a new finish. These are forged and lighter by 2kg per wheel. Carbon ceramics come standard, saving weight on each corner, as does the RS Sport exhaust system, which is 8kg lighter.

The interior, with its yellow decorative stitching, mimics the black/yellow leather combination in the B5 car we’re looking at. Everything in the car mirrors this, from the bucket seats, the floor mats have an RS4 logo etc. Lettering on the center console indicates each car’s sequential number from 1 to 250. As a nice throwback to the RS2 - customers can select a white background for the tachometer and speedometer via the MMI!

Finally, you can also choose an exclusive Audi flat-bottom real suede steering wheel matching the B5 car. The gearshift is finished in black suede too, this option is around 2,270 euros.

Audi Sport gives customers custom RS4 25 Alpine Stars gloves for use with this steering wheel. A full set of matte black forged alloys on racing tyres (Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks) are also given. And finally, the car comes with a special RS4 watch matching its specifications!

But is it worth it for the 120K price tag? I personally would shop for a Competition, but for an Audi collector this is the one to have.

Looking to the future, we’ve spotted the new B10 A5 Avant, with an interior featuring dual screens. An RS5 Avant with a V6 and hybrid boost is rumored, and we will discuss this today. One thing that’s no longer in doubt is how good it’s going to look! Even more aggressive than this outgoing car.
