Welcome Back to RBR guys, and to the first drive of the #BMWM #M3CS!

It’s a tough job for this car to impress, the main issue being just how good the standard M3 Xdrive is! So good in fact, that the limited numbers M4 CSL ends up being a disappointing load of compromises in a more expensive package, in comparison.

But I can tell you now: I own an M3 Touring and this is 100% a level above!! A CS that really follows on from the brilliance of the #BMW M5 CS and M2 CS, two of the best cars I’ve ever driven. But before we dive into how it differs — let me show you exactly what they’ve changed under the skin to bring about the change.

“Competition Sport”

Unlike the M4 CSL which is based on the RWD version of the M4 - Our CS starts with the XDrive M3 Competition as its basis. I like this, because the M5 CS also used this format!

Now just like our normal M3 — We have a unique wide body, epic S58 3-litre straight-six, ZF 8 speed and adaptive M suspension.

Tthe XDrive is fully variable with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, and thus Rear biased allowing for drift mode just like the M5. BUT - The CS builds upon all of this standard M3 basis. We have a new oil-cooling set-up for the multi-plate clutch pack, and revisions to the rear differential to give this its own character.

The Engine turbo pressure is up from 1.7 to 2.1 bar, so now up to 550HP! The engine mounts have a higher spring rate to improve rigidity, and a high-precision strut brace for the engine compartment taken from the CSL.

Of course the whole car has specifically tuned axle kinematics new wheel camber settings, new damper units, new auxiliary springs and anti-roll bars.

And finally a titanium rear silencer saving 4KG
Carbon used in some areas, but only saving 20KG vs the normal Xdrive M3 with this weighing 1765KG.

M3 CS Touring seems on the horizon, probably identical to this! So we will render it in the video!And an M2 CS, are we skipping the competition? Seems to be the case. Could be a cracking car!
