Part 2: Austin Allegro V6 supercharged sleeper project
Part 2 of Jonny's Vlog converting the most hated British car (1970s British Austin Allegro) and making it perform, handle and stop like a hot-ish hatchback. The 1977 Allegro's drivetrain has been taken from a 1993 Rover 827 Si donor car, which has a Honda-derived 2.7-litre 24v V6 and a manual 5-speed gearbox.
In this episode the team at Midland Performance & Retro transform the fetching Antiques Gold original paintwork using nothing but Farecla cutting/polishing products and Mirka abrasive pads. The interior is stripped out to reveal what is a pleasantly solid, unmolested Agro bodyshell.
British companies Forge Motorsport step in to support the cooling side of the project, while another British engineering outfit - Wortec - supply the highest spec braking system for a car on 15-inch wheels. Talking of 15s, the diameter has increased in order to cope with the enlarged brakes, and as such Jonny thinks he's found the perfect stealth steel wheel.
