The Highest Weather Station In Bulgaria | Europe From Above | National Geographic UK

Rising 2925 metres above sea level, Musala is the highest peak on the Balkans. Most Bulgarians are proud to have climbed the mountain at least once in their lifetime, but meteorologist Zahari Nedyalkov undertakes this epic 7 hour journey each month to reach his workplace - the highest weather station in Bulgaria. To keep his balance on the snowy covered mountain, Zahari relies on a thin rope lining the steep 500 metre cliff edge.

Join us as we use aerial cameras to follow Zaharia on his incredible commute to work and discover the fascinating ways he measures the weather from this high altitude weather station, built in 1932. Brand new episodes of Europe From Above, Thursdays at 8pm, on National Geographic UK
