Despite no longer actually having Spider-Man around, now that he’s off hanging out with Tony Stark, Sony continues to build out the Spider-Man cinematic universe, because what’s better than a world built around everyone but the character who made that world exist in the first place?

Sony's plan was to create a movie for Black Cat and Silver Sable, called Silver And Black, back in August of last year. The film is scheduled for release on February 8, 2019, giving the studio less than a year to write, cast, and shoot what is presumably a massively expensive superhero film, which is a great recipe for making a movie that looks like it was really hastily assembled.

“Silver and Black” is based on two Marvel characters: Silver Sable, a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals, and Black Cat, a burglar named Felicia Hardy who briefly appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” played by Felicity Jones. While both characters exist in Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, Prince-Bythewood’s film will not be a crossover with the web-slinger.

It is intended to be a part of a shared universe called Sony's Marvel Universe, centered on characters from the Spider-Man mythology, beginning with Venom in 2018. The films will be more adult-oriented and though they take place in the "same reality" as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they will not crossover with each other. In May 2017, it was announced that Gina Prince-Bythewood would direct the film now titled Silver & Black. Production was supposed to begin in March 2018, but has since been delayed "indefinitely". Prince-Bythewood said the cause of the delay was script issues. While the film was initially scheduled to be released on February 8, 2019, Sony removed the release date from the schedule. Production is now slated to begin in 2019.

Silver and Black will follow the studio’s highly-anticipated #Venom which marks the expansion of the Spider-Man cinematic universe. Venom stars Tom Hardy in the titular role.
