If the 570S isn’t practical enough and the 720S too extreme, the McLaren GT Steps in. With a longtail design and a longer wheelbase than a 720S, the McLaren GT is aimed at the audience that require more space and practicality due to longer journeys but without the compromise on performance. Utilising a variation of the MonoCell II tub from the Sport Series McLarens and the slightly de-tuned 4.0 twin-turbo V8, it certainly still feels like a supercar with precision handling and responsiveness, reminiscent of its supercar siblings. The figures back this. 0-62mph is dealt with in a mere 3.2 seconds and the GT surges to a top speed of 204 mph - few other grand tourers on the market can keep up. Despite being de-tuned, most of the torque has been programmed to be delivered lower in the rev range so that power is ready on tap when cruising at low revs and high gears.

Alongside delivering supercar performance, the McLaren GT is more spacious inside thanks to a 140mm increase in length of overall over the 720S. A large rear luggage bay offers sufficient storage space for long drives with the cabin also feeling spacious and airy. McLaren have taken its signature interior and added a ‘deluxe’ feel to it. The ride is comfortable by virtue of adaptive damping and the use of double-wishbone suspension utilised from the 570S. The McLaren GT successfully merges supercar pedigree with grand tourer capabilities. What other grand tourer on the market features dihedral doors?
