If 5 people (A, B, C, D, E) are randomly seated at a circular table, what is the probability A and B will be seated next to each other? What if they are seated in a row instead? And what is the answer, for both cases (circular and row), if there are n people? (Seated randomly means the uniform distribution–each person is equally likely to be in any seat). This problem has been asked during interviews for programmers at Bloomberg and at and other technical jobs. Watch the video for a solution.
