This week, we tour a super clean and understated HDB home in Canberra. At a size of 93 sqm, this 4-room HDB flat was built at a cost of $50k - which is pretty good considering this is inclusive of the furnishings of the home thrown in.

Home owners Ming Kai and Stephanie both liked more neutral tones and had a colour palette in mind from the beginning. And if you left it to them to describe it, it would be a mix of a Japan and Scandinavian style - more commonly known today as Japandi. The open kitchen and simple furnitures in the living help make the place look a lot more spacious, and the consistency of the wood laminate used throughout the home help to keep the place in a central theme.

What we really like is the fluted wall panels that are flushed (in keeping with the minimalist look). And of course, how the bomb shelter was cleverly kept out of sight.

Special thanks to Ming Kai and Stephanie for showing us around their cosy home! For more on their lovely space please visit @houseroos
