By comparison, Michael Keaton's Batman also gets several call-back scenes in the trailers, quoting lines from the Tim Burton-directed films while also recreating iconic scenes from the first Batman such as the Batwing superimposed over the moon. Not only is The Flash filled with callbacks such as these, but they're being received very well by viewers. Also, it's become evident from the trailers that Keaton's role will be more than just providing fun DC nostalgia. It truly looks like the character will be fleshed out in new areas while continuing his arc from both Batman and Batman Returns.

Unfortunately, Keaton's dynamic role in The Flash makes Cavill's absence even worse. The movie seems to be taking a lot of care and effort to honor its characters and the past movies it's referencing. As such, it's even sadder that Superman isn't getting a chance to benefit from that same level of treatment considering all the great Man of Steel callbacks and references.
