A few points:
1. Green bark is the ideal, but old bark can be used as well. Hot water makes the bark flexible - just don't use burning hot water, it will damage the bark.
2. The ideal is to use a single strip for wrapping around the entire sheath - but as I show in the video is it possible to use multiple piece of bark strips for the wrap, friction will keep it together.
3. You is not limited to use only birch bark - you can use bark from a lot of other trees as well example willow.
4. Birch bark sheaths is common/was common in Finland and just in general in the north. One sheath can last many years.
