Battery technology is finally getting better, and while it helps improving EVs, it has had the side effect of making hybrids much better! Instead of having 10-30 miles of EV range for a HUGE weight penalty, we now have cars like the new E Class that almost give 70miles real range!
And the benefits are obvious, EV mode for urban jobs, and when you need a good old reliable engine, its on tap!
And the new #mercedes #EClass is an all hybrid family, with every model either mild, to full plug-in like our car today. Which as I said promises 70miles electric, and as a #MercedesBenz what I found to be better than S Class in many ways too!
This is also the first Mercedes in this new Era that I’ve sat in and thought: this is built and designed like a Mercedes should be. The exterior is unique, and while that annoys some people, I think the E Classes have always brought quirky aesthetics to the Benz range, particularly with the lights. Our W214 continues this tradition with that light and grille treatment!
Inside, it’s also a notch above every other Mercedes in may opinion, despite the big screen. And thank goodness for that, because the E Class is super important car relied on millions as a daily car.
The the UK, the E starts around 55k for E200. And with everything getting expensive — today’s car is the 76k E300e AMG Line Premium Plus. You might gasp at the price, but this fully loaded E Hybrid is still cheaper than a base EQE, and every other new car is getting as expensive! Sadly, no 6 cylinder petrol in the UK, but there is a 6 cylinder diesel that can be had.
The E300e is a RWD full plug-in which pairs a 4 cyl engine, with a PSM Electric Motor, and a big 25.4KW battery! This gives us the following stats:
204 HP engine
129 HP emotor
System output 313HP
550NM
6.4 secs
The more important figure however, is the range: Mercedes claims a range of around 70 miles, and we will test this and the ICE engine range properly on a road trip today!
Our standard plug ins come with AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system. While AIR suspension and rear wheel steer are not in the UK, I found it not to be a bad thing as you’ll see!
We also have the Digital light option, which projects signs on the road, and the cool lighted grille — which looks awesome alongside the rear lights with star logos!
Inside you’ll find the Simplified MBUX super screen — which is 100% better designed than the Hyperscreen from the EQ cars. We also have the awesome 3D driver zone, which is literally the best digital screen I’ve ever used thanks to it almost seeming analog. I’ll also show you the Active ambient lighting option, Digital vents, and we’ll talk about 4D Burmester with DOLBY ATMOS SUPREMACY!
(Look out for some talk on the Exclusive edition - Like an S Class executive top spec E Class, and we will also recap the E53 AMG hybrid!)
Is this the most solid Mercedes Benz they have built lately, as I’ve claimed? And is this yet another nail in the coffin of an “all-EV” world? Let’s find out today!
