Italian designer Piero Lissoni explains his modular Dock sofa system for furniture manufacturer B&B Italia in this movie produced by Dezeen for the Italian brand.

B&B Italia launched the collaboration with Lissoni at this year's Salone Del Mobile furniture fair in Milan.

Dock is a modular sofa system with 84 components that can be combined to create myriad potential configurations.

A solid wooden platform forms the base of the system, to which cushions, armrests and oval-shaped glass tables can be added to build a custom sofa.

Lissoni designed the system to be flexible, with the needs of a younger audience in mind.

"Dock is a platform, with many different cushions with many different measurements, with many different thicknesses in materiality, with different small tables" he said in the video interview, which was shot by Dezeen at B&B Italia's stall at Salone del Mobile.

"It is a platform for lamps, books and life," he added.
