The Pale Mountains of South Tyrol | The Alps from above (9/10)
South Tyrol and Trentino are Italy’s northern provinces. The journey from a bird’s eye view leads from Val Venosta in the North of Bolzano across the Dolomites in the East. Most farms have been built high up in the mountains - on scenic locations that can only be reached by road for a few years. Surgery nurse Astrid Jung likes to spend her holidays on the Tuerkhof farm - to work as a farmhand. And veterinarian Marion Tartarotti takes care of the animals that cannot be transported down to the valley. The Hochjoch glacier is where the climate changes in this world of ice are being studied.
Further south, the view from the air opens up on the vineyards on Lake Kaltern. Elena Walch, a trained architect, has become one of the most successful winemakers of the region. Near Pinzolo, Filippo Zibordi is hot on the trails of an animal species that has almost been extinct in the Alpine region: the brown bear. He studies their mating behaviour and makes sure their caves are protected. Lake Garda lies in the South of Pinzolo. It forms a hollow in between 2.000 meter high mountains. During the nights, the air cools off drastically, thus generating winds that offer the perfect conditions for kite surfers such as Chiara Piccoli.

The Alps are the most prominent mountain range in Europe and also one of the most accessible. Over thousands of years, a unique landscape was created in which man and nature shaped each other. The documentary series approaches this fascinating world from an unusual perspective - from above. Using Cineflex camera technology, "Alps from above" sets the scene for the most fascinating peaks of the Alps. Breathtaking aerial shots alternate with pointed vignettes of the mountain inhabitants; a flow of high-quality images provides a modern profile of life in the Alps.
